Turquoise class performance!!

Hello Parents!!

I hope you enjoyed the performances!! The children worked very hard on their dances and songs and I think the result was WONDERFUL! I was so proud of them!! Here are a few of the pictures from that night, although I am sure that you have plenty!!

Fun in the sun!

For a recent craft we made, the children decorated their own hats! These beauties are still at school but they will be bringing them home soon! Crafts like this are fun and creative, and a great way for the children to review some of their basic foundation vocabulary from the beginning of the year that we do not necessarily emphasize this semester. Plus they look adorable on!

Thirteen (13)!!

We have learned up to the number thirteen already!! We are constantly counting everything and anything at school so keep counting things at home as well! Everyone has picked up thirteen very nicely, especially since thirteen can be particularly hard to pronounce so keep up the good work!!

Happy Birthday!

Here are some of the pictures from the great BIG birthday day!

Opposites

Our work with OPPOSITES continued with learning about HARD and SOFT, WET and DRY, and CLEAN and DIRTY. We used tactile methods to learn about both hard/soft and wet/dry. You can practice at home by touching different objects and asking whether they are wet or dry, or hard or soft. To learn about hard and soft, we made soft sheep and hard brick walls:)

Parts of the House

In April we learned about different rooms in the house and the objects that you find in them! We covered BATHROOM, BEDROOM, KITCHEN, and GARDEN. We also learned the phrase "May I go to the bathroom?" so that the children will get used to using longer sentences in English. It will be slow, but it is building off of their vocabulary so it will be a progression. Everyone has even started using the phrase already, they are quick learners!
Here of some pictures from our lessons about the parts of the home!

In the KITCHEN making oven mitts for HOT food!

Learning about the GARDEN and the plants and trees you find there!

Cut Cut Cut!

Everyone has been practicing cutting all by theirselves as well! Practice makes perfect :)

Transportation!

This month we have been working on TRANSPORTATION! The units are broken down by the environment in which the vehicles are used. We started with ROAD VEHICLES (Car, Bus and Truck), then moved on to AIR VEHICLES (Plane, Hot Air Balloon and Helicopter), and this week we have learned about WATER VEHICLES (Boat and Submarine). Here are some pictures of the children and the projects they have done during these lessons!

New Semester!! This semester we will do a lot of review. Everyone learned the subjects from last semester VERY well, but I want to make sure that they comprehend, and do not simply memorize things that Caroline teacher says. Turquoise class has started learning OPPOSITES. Many of these are new so we will work on them throughout the semester, as well as introduce more and more as we go along. **Look at the song page for updated songs for practice at home- there is one for OPPOSITES/

We will also be continuing from numbers 1-10 all the way up to 20! We will do this slowly, reviewing and building on 1-10 so that the children will recognize numbers on their own, as well as be able to count.

Shapes and Fruits!!

We have been learning shapes and fruits for the past two weeks. We learned five basic shapes: circle, square, triangle, heart, and star. The children recognize these shapes in everyday objects. We practiced finding CIRCLES in many different objects throughout our classroom and the whole school. Everyone has learned circle very quickly!! Practicing the other shapes will help them comprehend them just as well as they know circle!

Here are some of our shape related crafts!!

For our food section we learned names for banana, apple, strawberry, grapes, pear, and orange. The pronunciation of "strawberry" was especially hard for everyone, so keep practicing! Mastering "strawberry" will help the children with tough words in the future (particularly those with two adjacent consonants).
